We’re excited to share details for the 2026 Sutton Coal Rats Scrambler, hosted by Babes Ride Alaska. Babes Ride Alaska is a local non-profit dedicated to supporting and growing motorcycle access, education, safety and racing throughout Alaska. All proceeds and donations from this event will benefit this mission, and will be donated directly to the non-profit. Additional donations will be accepted and appreciated during race day!

Entry fee: $20 payable at registration

Schedule

Saturday, September 19th: Camping and course marking at Slipper Lake Recreation Area

Public camping is available in the area. We will have the race pit area designated by 7:00 PM, and riders may camp nearby.

We will be marking the course the night before the race, and setting up the pit/start area. Volunteers are appreciated, and you can register online to participate as a volunteer on the event page!

Sunday, May 31st:

9:00 AM: Check-In Opens for All Riders

11:00 AM: Check-In Closes for All Riders

11:15 AM: Riders Meeting (ALL RIDERS MUST ATTEND)

11:45 AM: Start Area Closes (all bikes must be in starting area and ready to ride before this time)

12:00 PM: C-CLASS START

2:00 PM: C-CLASS FINAL LAPS BEGIN

3:00 PM: COURSE CLOSED, TIMING CLOSED

3:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Course Clean-Up

5:00 PM - 8:00 PM: BBQ

Classes

This event will be an C-class timed hare scramble with separate adult men and women classes, as well as boy and girl junior classes. The course is mainly single-track, with some open navigation sections and elevation change. THIS IS A NOVICE/LOW INTERMEDIATE EVENT. PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY RACED A-CLASS OR WERE IN THE TOP 20 OF A B-CLASS RACE.

Junior riders (13-16) are welcome to participate in this event. Parents MUST BE PRESENT for the entire race.

safety and tech requirements

Safety Equipment:

All riders must have the following safety equipment, and must show it to officials at check-in. If you have questions about safety equipment, please reach out:

  • Full-face helmet with secured chin strap (absolutely no open-face helmets will be allowed)

  • Goggles in good condition

  • Full-height motorcycle riding boots - no work boots. Boots must be at least 8 inches high when measured from the bottom of the heel.

  • Full-length pants, and long-sleeve jersey

  • Gloves in good condition

  • Chest and back protection is REQUIRED for riders under 18, and highly recommended for all other riders.

Motorcycle Equipment Requirements

  • ABSOLUTELY NO studs, ice screws, or other tire modifications that increase traction are allowed

  • All motorcycles must be in good working condition with front and rear brakes and fenders

  • All riders must have a front or side number plate with their number clearly visible to officials and other riders

    • Temporary numbers are acceptable. Numbers will be confirmed and assigned at check-in, make sure to register early to claim your number!

Volunteers

Volunteer positions are needed for the following tasks:

COURSE SWEEPS: 5

Course sweeps spend the entire race time riding their bike on the course with racers, or in the pits. Course Sweeps help riders with mechanical problems, injuries, or who need other types of assistance.

  • Course sweeps should be at least intermediate-skilled riders, and some mechanical or medical knowledge is helpful but not required

  • Sweeps carry radios and are responsible for communicating with race control about any course or rider issues

COURSE MARSHALS: 10-20

Course Marshals spend the entire race time on the course, and are responsible for monitoring certain parts of the course and assisting riders. Course Marshals have radios and communicate with Race Control. This is a great position to volunteer for with some friends! Hang out together, watch the race, and have a great day outside!

  • Course Marshals should be able to ride a bike, walk, or ride with someone else to a certain point on the track. Marshals may need to walk on tough terrain for a bit to get to their positions

Off-Course Volunteers: 10

Off-Course Volunteers help with sign-ups, timing, pit management, and other various duties near the starting area. Off-Course Volunteers do not need any special skills, and will be assisting throughout the day.
